“UNCORKED for a Cause” Returns April 21: Happy-Hour Style, Blind Wine Tasting Raises Funds for Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito

The Junior Board of Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito today announced the return of popular wine tasting fundraiser “UNCORKED for a Cause.” The event will take place Friday, April 21 from 7-9:00 p.m. at a new venue,Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito Center for a Healthy Lifestyle, which includes a half acre urban farm & garden on the beautiful Encinitas hillside. The happy-hour style, blind wine tasting event features more than 100 bottles of red wine, light food and friendly competition. Since its inception, the event has raised more than $50,000 for Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito. This year’s event is made possible by the support of sponsors including Retirement Benefits Group (RBG), TICOR Title and raffle sponsors Andaz San Diego and Callaway Golf.

“This is a great opportunity to bring friends and family together for a fun evening of wine tasting, entertainment and competition – all for a great cause!” said Junior Board President Caroline Hornblower.  “We’re proud to have raised over $50,000 for Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito since our first UNCORKED event. Each year it gets bigger and better and we’re looking forward to making this year’s event the best yet!”

One of BGC’s amazing Youth Arts Academy rock bands will provide entertainment for the evening. Guests can sip wine and stroll around the half acre urban farm and garden. Part of BGC San Dieguito’s Center for a Healthy Lifestyle, the farm and garden in Encinitas serves as a classroom for programs including gardening, composting and sustainability. In addition, it will provide many of the ingredients for the Center’s Farm to Table classes, an exciting cooking class that gives kids ages 8-14 the opportunity to learn how to prepare seasonal, healthful food. This is also a great opportunity to tour the Griset Clubhouse and see first-hand the impact the Clubs have on youth in the community.

To participate in the blind tasting competition, teams of one, two or three people bring three bottles of the same wine (domestic reds only, three bottles total per team). One bottle goes into the “jackpot” and two bottles go into the “tasting pool.” Participants blindly taste every team’s wine and vote for their favorite. The top three teams with the most votes win the jackpot. Last year’s first place team took home over 50 bottles of wine.

Tickets are just $30 in advance or $40 at the door.
