California One Step Closer to Allowing Compassionate Access to Medical Cannabis in Healthcare Facilities

Jim Bartell on ABC 10 News

Lee and London recently celebrated a PR victory with our dear friend, former Santee mayor Jim Bartell and Cannabis Nurses Network CEO Heather in the approval of Senate 305—Ryan’s Law: Compassionate access to medical cannabis in Californian healthcare facilities, a proposed state senate bill to allow terminally ill patients to use cannabis in hospitals. After his son lost his battle to cancer in 2008, Jim was inspired to draft “Ryan’s Law” as an advocate for cannabis treatment recognition in hospitals. Ryan was rejected by healthcare facilities multiple times for his choice to opt for cannabis treatments in lieu of high dosages of morphine and fentanyl, which left him in a constant state of lethargy. That’s when Jim met and voiced his frustrations to Heather who became a liaison between Bartell and medical healthcare facilities open to medical cannabis access.

Together, Jim and Heather have partnered to improve the relationships between medical staff, healthcare facilities and patients opting for cannabis treatments nationwide by sharing their experiences.

On April 5 our team had the privilege of accompanying Jim and Heather at a press conference held at the State Building in downtown San Diego! Local news stations were in attendance as Jim shared his powerful story and was broadcasted and featured on top media outlets throughout San Diego. Jim and Heather were also joined by State Senator Ben Hueso who presented the bill to the Senate Committee on Health in Sacramento on April 11, where the bill was passed!

Our team takes pride in our ability to earn media coverage and entice awareness across a variety of fields and definitely count this one as a win for the books!
